This region sits at an elevation of roughly 5,500 to 7,000 feet, creating a unique microclimate influenced by both prairie and alpine ecosystems. The combination of cool summer nights, strong sun exposure, and relatively low humidity contributes to hardy vegetation adapted to short growing seasons and wide temperature swings.

The Land

Our ranch lies just outside Red Lodge, Montana, in the transitional zone between the high plains and the Rocky Mountain Front. Positioned near Cooney Reservoir and at the base of the Beartooth Mountains, the land here is shaped by both glacial history and ongoing geological activity. The soils are primarily loamy and well-drained, formed from ancient alluvial and glacial deposits—ideal for native forage and sustainable grazing.
